Dutch Barn & Climbing Wall

Completed in 1997, with funding from the Foundation for Sport and the Arts, this facility provides spacious wet weather shelter for activities and games. The barn is open at all times and access for different activities is subject to negotiation between leaders of groups on site. The barn cannot be pre-booked to the exclusion of other site users.

One end of the barn is fitted with professionally designed climbing walls which provide a challenge for all abilities from beginner to the experienced rock athelete. Routes are colour-coded, with alternative fixed belay points, so that a number of people can climb simultaneously. An 8m high tower has two climbing faces and an abseiling face. A further practice wall is under cover.

Access to this tower and the climbing walls is restricted to Scout/Guide groups under the supervision of a leader suitably authorised for climbing and abseiling. He/she should first report to the Warden and show evidence of qualifications.

All climbing facilities must be pre-booked. Other bona-fide climbers and clubs may book the facilities during off-peak and mid-week periods by arrangement with the Warden but they must provide their own equipment.

To book the Climbing Tower, please go to the activities bookings page.
